I'm having trouble getting the help system to build an index. Is there something broken in the bits, or am I doing something wrong? I simply went into help, clicked on 'search' and was asked if I wanted to create an index. I selected 'yes' and entered my root password. I then accepted the defaults and clicked 'build index'. I just sits there with a progress bar at 0%. Does this work for others? STH

What errors are you getting when you run /sbin/conf.d/SuSEconfig.susehelp? IIRC, there is an error in the name of the pid file. Please send the output. OK, I downloaded the pristine rpm to take a look. You should: (1) Change all reference of indexsusehelp to susehelpindex in /sbin/conf.d/SuSEconfig.susehelp. (2) Also susehelpindex is installed in /usr/bin and not /usr/sbin, so change it in the file. I am surprise that SuSE haven't updated that package. Charles The SuSEconfigure error went away, but I still can't index the help.

Now, do I change the script, or the file name? Or does it matter? And does this mean when I get 8.2 I'll forget I changed the file and cry for an hour untile I decide to read my little nastygrams in my root inbox? STH

Yes, file "/sbin/conf.d/SuSEconfig.susehelp" has wrong references to "indexsusehelp" and others: correct. It is documented, I think, on the unofficial FAQ and this list archives. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson
