We see often questions about the packages included on one or an other SUSE Linux Version. the smaller complete list is INDEX.gz. even unzipped, it's not that big, but it's long (3200 line approx). Mediawiki seems to accept it. Can you test this. If there is no problem, it's easy to makes this available for wiki users. http://fr.opensuse.org/Utilisateur:Jdd/test I see no problem with Konqueror or Mozilla. jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://dodin.org/galerie_photo_web/expo/index.html http://lucien.dodin.net http://fr.susewiki.org/index.php?title=Gérer_ses_photos

Did we not already had such a thing? An online pin? The online pin is something I prefer. This is not bad, if it also inludes the CD6 and perhaps also whet is not on the CD, but only on the DVD. houghi -- Nutze die Zeit. I have now exported some statistics from an internal mirror system here because people ask that often for packages included in SUSE releases and their version numbers. http://pi3.informatik.uni-mannheim.de/~schiele/suseversions includes all packages availlable on public mirrors including the availlable update packages. If people find this information useful I could make the statistic to be re-exported nightly. I would really love to see this done nightly. I find it very useful. The data in itself might be usefull. The way it is presented makes it something I won't use. I tried looking for the URL with the online pin, but can't find it. :-( The above might be usefull as raw data. The 'pin online' would be ideal as a lige tool for users to look up individual packages. houghi -- Nutze die Zeit. Sie ist das Kostbarste, was wir haben, denn es ist unwiederbringliche Lebenszeit. there are two kind of info. * inst-source packages, the ones on the CD, fixed, so don't need any refresh, it's what a planned to give. There are the packages installed on any first install * updates directory by YOU. We have seen here that the packages number is _not_ significant as to know the security status, so little interest in my advice. and I proposed that to have it _on the wiki_ I'm always ashamed to have to give an URL outside opensuse.org :-)) jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://dodin.org/galerie_photo_web/expo/index.html http://lucien.dodin.net http://fr.susewiki.org/index.php?title=Gérer_ses_photos

They _do_ need refreshes because factory is constantly changing.

So, does it _hurt_ to have this versions included? If the version number does not change nothing happens and if it does the information might be interesting.
and I proposed that to have it _on the wiki_
If you have a tool that can automatically submit contents for a specific page I can spool the data there. Alternatively feel free to copy the contents to the wiki every day manually.
I'm always ashamed to have to give an URL outside opensuse.org :-))
Well, this is what will happen as long as the infrastructure is under full control of Novell. If you always waited for action from the "official" side, nothing from the outside could really happen or at least in an extremely slow manner. I think we speak of two different things. You give a very complete info, sure important for some people. I speak of much simpler thing, easier to browse: is a given package on the CD? and if yesy, on wich cd? the goal, is, for example, not to fire Yast only to see there is no package or to install with rpm directly. two different ways, more complementary than opposite. ma initial question was mainly a technical question: more than 3000 lines on only one wiki page is much. May be I can part it by cd number (and strip off the first part of the line) probably better jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://dodin.org/galerie_photo_web/expo/index.html http://lucien.dodin.net http://fr.susewiki.org/index.php?title=Gérer_ses_photos

Never used "pin" ? Try this on a shell: pin pin

Yes, that's useless, way too large.
May be I can part it by cd number (and strip off the first part of the line) probably better
I don't think so. You have to check 5 different pages to see whether a package is included or not, that's even worse than not having that page at all IMO. I guess we need some kind of database with some custom PHP to query and browse. That's a) something custom that has to be developed (but it's not very complex) b) something that has to be accepted by Novell's opensuse.org admin staff as it could potentially be abused by bots to generate a lot of load on the opensuse.org server (maybe add a CAPTCHA or something like that) IMO: forget it, not worth the hassle, and we already have http://hitme.resetbutton.de/pin/ cheers -- -o) Pascal Bleser http://linux01.gwdg.de/~pbleser/ /\\ <pascal.bleser@skynet.be> <guru@unixtech.be> _\_v FOSDEM 2006 -- 25+26 February 2006 in Brussels

or just pin. The disadvatage of pin is that it 'only' shows the info on the CD's, not on FTP. Another is that it's display is very confusing. I will re-send my patch for that when I have time. <snip>
IMO: forget it, not worth the hassle, and we already have http://hitme.resetbutton.de/pin/
That was the page I was looking for. It could need some different configuration. It would also be great to have it (or something like it) included on openSUSE.org houghi -- Nutze die Zeit. I see no problem with Konqueror or Mozilla.
Now why not just use (refer to this in the wiki or whatever): http://linux01.gwdg.de/apt4rpm/home.html#contents It's refreshed every 4 or 6 hours, and contains not only suse base packages, but many, many 3rd party packages as well. -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless
