Repo: http://mirror.fcix.net/opensuse/tumbleweed/repo/ 0.0 - 2.0 KiB/s
Devs, all, I've been stuck doing a "zypper se eigen" for 30 minutes waiting for repositories to update. The problematic repo on Tumbleweed is the default "openSUSE-*-0.repo" that has baseurl=http://mirror.fcix.net/opensuse/tumbleweed/repo/ Here is the current thoughput: $ bwm-ng v0.6.3 (probing every 0.500s), press 'h' for help input: /proc/net/dev type: rate | iface Rx Tx Total = <snip> KB/s wlo1: 0.00 KB/s 0.00 KB/s 0.00 KB/s br0: 0.00 KB/s 0.00 KB/s 0.00 KB/s - total: 0.00 KB/s 0.00 KB/s 0.00 KB/s A few minutes later: $ bwm-ng v0.6.3 (probing every 0.500s), press 'h' for help input: /proc/net/dev type: rate / iface Rx Tx Total = <snip> wlo1: 0.22 KB/s 0.18 KB/s 0.40 KB/s br0: 0.00 KB/s 0.00 KB/s 0.00 KB/s - total: 0.22 KB/s 0.18 KB/s 0.40 KB/s Is there any system that monitors mirrors and kicks them out when they can't serve packages? Finally after what seems like forever I get: Repository 'openSUSE-20240704-0' is invalid. [openSUSE-20240704-0|http://mirror.fcix.net/opensuse/tumbleweed/repo/oss/] Valid metadata not found at specified URL History: - Timeout exceeded when accessing 'http://mirror.fcix.net/opensuse/tumbleweed/repo/oss/repodata/762ac4531c45ef5...'. Also, where does the "openSUSE-*-0.repo" come from on TW? I didn't add it. It seems duplicative of "download.opensuse.org-oss.repo" where both have baseurls looking for .../tumbleweed/repo/oss/ -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

Probably a silly side track, but why are you using an http: link rather than an https: one?

Not a silly sidetrack at all.. I didn't do any of the repo choosing -- this is from a new TW install in July. So whatever repos there are related to .../oss/repo/ and .../non-oss/repo/ -- Tumbleweed did. Now I did remove the openSUSE cdn packages due to this same problem, and whatever repos it automatically restored is what I have now. I disabled the nutty 'openSUSE-*-0.repo' named repo that was where this near-dead repo was. The irony is the repo started to refresh -- but then took so damn long to build the repo metadata -- that the repo xml file on that host changed and it invalidated the 1/2 hour I had waited for that repo to refresh. (thankfully I got eigen3-devel installed) -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

Something in the installation system sees you have an NVidia GPU, so it adds openSUSE-repos-Tumbleweed and openSUSE-repos-Tumbleweed-NVIDIA onto your installation whether you want them or not, unless you take the trouble to taboo them in detailed package selection. # time zypper se eigen Loading repository data... I'm in FL between Gainesville & Orlando, in the peninsula, so no neighboring states anywhere nearby comprise much of a grid from cable. I want your traceroute hops :) I don't know what the hell the issue is, but from East Texas (Tyler/Dallas based hops) those URLs crawl at less that 2 KiB/s. I just had to remove the cdn repos again -- so maybe their magic reinstallation has something to do with the slowness. Dunno, I've removed them again and repos are back to the ones I want which improved things last time -- so I'll keep an eye on it. -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.
