Unable to boot at runlevel 5 after Update
Hi, I'm using OpenSuse 10.0 at home. And because i have not a good internet connection I do updates offline. Usually I mirror the new rpm at an Update suse mirror (ftp.rediris.es) and with yast (install summary) I choose to reinstall all the blue signed packages. Things have worked quite well for months. A few days ago after doing this procedure I'm unable to boot at runlevel 5. I'm obliged to boot at runlevel 3. After booting at runlevel 3 I can start X, with startx, without any problems. As root I'm still able to start kdm. And if I perform, as root, the command init 5, the X do no appear and for each key of the keybord to work in the console text terminal I must press it twice. When I start at runlevel 3 I got the message that the nfs and smbfs services were skipped. Nevertheless if I disable those services with the runlevel editor I still i'm not able to boot at runlevel 5. This is only an minor worried because after starting X in runlevel 3, with startx, the system performs as expected. Nevertheles any hint how to solve this problem will be welcome. Look for the thread "SuSE 10 won't start after update with apt-get on 24 feb.". In this mail list. The problem is related to the kdebase3-kdm package. SuSE solved the problem after the latest updates. Probably the server you are using does not offer the latest packages. If so choose another mirror. Francesco António Rodrigues Tomé wrote:
