Stopping the screen from blanking
Originally to: All Hello everybody. I have tried to find it in the SuSE manuals but no joy. I want to prevent the screen from blanking as it interfers with lockvs, a locking screensaver. Anyone know how to do it. Yes and no. The confusing thing about screen blanking is that there are two different agents in control of it, and which one handles it depends on whether you're within X or not. In console mode, setterm does it (as you correctly point out); but in X, xset does it. And if you're running KDE, I believe that the xset settings are overridden by the ones in the KDE Control Center. Paul

I think xset s off #should do the trick.

If he's using KDE, then it can be done from the KDE Control Center more easily and reliably. But screen blanking can occur even in console mode, though I don't remember how to tweak that. Yet another possibility is that Sean's BIOS is set to do screen blanking after some interval. If so, that will override everything else. Paul
