RE: [SuSE Linux] To the Whiners on this list. Others pls
What I get a kick out of, is, you answer a question on here, all of a sudden you get that person, plus all his friends emailing you, acting as if your there personal tech support line. ______________________________ Reply Separator _________________________________ Subject: Re: [SuSE Linux] To the Whiners on this list. Others pls dis Author: "Ben Rosenberg" [SMTP:dragula@anet-stl.com] at BCEEXCH Date: 6/3/99 1:23 PM heh, Your such a funny guy .. this list is for discussion on the topic of suse .. not just configurations or hardware. People come here to get answers, express their opinions and the like. I have been very quiet on the kernel subject because it's as tired as a dead horse. I expressed "MY" opinion and have since stopped talking about it. My 6.1 in stall is fine. I updated everything by download the stuff at work and it's fast. Not everyone has redundant DS3's and 7 T1's at work ... I am glad I do :) Even though I was pissed off at first and I expressed this, I am not angry at all anymore .. and hell I just helped 5 more people this week at work to install SuSE 6.1 2.2.5 on their boxen. Also, I recommended it to about 10 other people and they bought it. One was a friend who was able to bring it into his workplace and the CEO replaced their netware server with it. They also installed it on 30 workstations replacing WinNT 4.0 ( they are a "MS Solutions" provider to boot ) .. and for being a little more then a newbie .. you should be so arrogant and rude as to call us "whiners". :P just my 0.10 Steve Pauly wrote:
If you want to whine about something, do it off the list. Start a whiner's
club amounst yourselves and cc each other. Or maybe SuSE can start a SuSE-linux-whiners-e list and just the whiners can subscribe. Or get on usenet and whine. But whine the hell away from us. IOW, use the list constructively.
I think answers to most problems can be found in the HOWTO's and the very fine SuSE published doc. It's time people realize they should do a little more reading on their own, and that a $39 product may not have instantaneous telephone or email support from the vendor. And this griping
about the 2.2.5 and 2.2.7 kernels. Geez louise, get with the program and just ftp and install the dang thing. We should be happy that SuSE employees are on this list; cut them some slack every once in a while. :-)
Someone alluded to the apparent "explosion" of whiners. Is this just mass hysteria? must be...
But seriously,
I'm certainly little more than a newbie myself, but I try to do this before posting: 0)Read the SuSE doc, and other UNIX and linux books, etc. 1)search the SuSE site, especially looking at the list archives 2)search Usenet using deja.com, etc. 3)then the web using altavista, etc.
If these techniques are mysterious to you, well... what can I say?
Looking forward to a less noisy list.
Steve.
