Presently have dual boot SUSE10.0 and XP. I want to install 10.2 on new disk and retain the old SUSE10.0 disk in case I have problems. The Grub boot loader is on ( /dev/hdb2, root=/dev/hdb2) at /boot/vmlinuz.
Can I just fix the mbr for XP, unplug the old disk and install new one and install 10.2? Will I be able to put old disk bad and use repair to create grub if 10.2 does not work?
Thanks for any pointers.
It depends on which disk will be hdb and which won't when they will be both in place. If the old disk will not be hdb anymore than windows and 10.0 won't start; linux can be fixed by editing /etc/fstab, windows *may* be fixed editing C:\BOOT.INI (you should contact MS tech assistance for this)
