Possible Fix for Konq Browser SSL problems?
I have seen several posts from people having problems with secure web sites with the new KDE 2.2.2. I to am having trouble connecting to a secure banking site, but I think I might be past the problem others are seeing. I do get pop-up messages like this: "The certificate is valid but does not appear to have been signed to this server. Do you wish to continue loading?" At first, when I clicked "Yes" to these messages I would not be able to connect to the site. I got past this by making a configuration change in Konqueror: Settings -> Configure Konqueror -> Crypto -> SSL Then press "Most Compatible This allowed me to connect to the site. Unfortunately, the site uses Java which is not working for me in Konqueror. I see "Loading Applet" and nothing more. I do have Java enabled and have set the path to point to the Java executable. The path is /usr/lib/java/bin/java Executing the above shows java version "1.1.8" -- ____________________________________________________________________ Robert Paulsen paulsen@texas.net

If you select this option is lowers the encryption to an easily crackable level. Most banks use at least 128 bit encryption, however once the Most Compatible option is selected, it appears that the strongest encryption available to konqueor is 56 bit. It is probably better to continue having to select continue/yes and use the stronger encryption, then use this weaker encryption system Adam
Hi Setting the SSL to "most compatible" does not help, konqueror still displays that message. Jaska. Viestissä Perjantai 7. Joulukuuta 2001 20:39, SuSE Mailing List User kirjoitti:

Right -- the message still appears, but -- at least for me -- it will then successfully connect via SSL. Without using "most compatible" -- again, at least for me -- the connection would fail after dismissing the message. -- ____________________________________________________________________ Robert Paulsen paulsen@texas.net

Why so? You can still enable the triple-Des stuff if you want. I did that
anyway because I noticed it removed 3-DES from the SSL2 ciphers.
The 128-bit ones are still enabled anyway.
