Huh, sorry,
unintentional double post. Thunderbird bug, apparently.
Sometimes Th does not use the default smtp server (postfix) and sends on its own.
Can't say I've ever seen that happen, but my TB is quite old. What does "sends on its own" mean btw? That TB looks up the MX for the recipient domain and talks directly to that?
Ah. On the Th smtp configuration setting, I have an entry for "localhost", configured as default smtp server: port 25, no user name, no auth, no connection security. Posts are sent to postfix, and postfix handles the sending via my ISP relay. And all accounts have this entry set as the smtp server to use. Then, I also have entries for each account, so that using a gmail account thunderbird would talk with the gmail entry server for sending. This is what I called "on its own". The current setting on each account is "use default smtp server", as described above for localhost, not the ISP for each account. On this occasion, though, apparently Th ignored this setting, and sent directly, using the other config, sending directly to my ISP. Or so I thought. Looking again at the logs, I see that thunderbird sent the same email twice to postfix: <2.6> 2014-02-16 13:43:10 minas-tirith postfix 5963 - - connect from localhost[127.0.0.1] <2.6> 2014-02-16 13:43:10 minas-tirith postfix 5966 - - connect from localhost[127.0.0.1] <2.6> 2014-02-16 13:43:10 minas-tirith postfix 5966 - - 2B8E5183B8F: client=localhost[127.0.0.1] <2.6> 2014-02-16 13:43:10 minas-tirith postfix 5963 - - 2D2CB185578: client=localhost[127.0.0.1] <2.6> 2014-02-16 13:43:10 minas-tirith postfix 5968 - - 2B8E5183B8F: message-id=<5300B25D.6080107@telefonica.net> <2.6> 2014-02-16 13:43:10 minas-tirith postfix 5969 - - 2D2CB185578: message-id=<5300B25D.2040905@telefonica.net> <2.6> 2014-02-16 13:43:10 minas-tirith postfix 5966 - - disconnect from localhost[127.0.0.1] <2.6> 2014-02-16 13:43:10 minas-tirith postfix 1944 - - 2D2CB185578: from=<robin.listas@...>, size=2460, nrcpt=1 (queue active) <2.6> 2014-02-16 13:43:10 minas-tirith postfix 1944 - - 2B8E5183B8F: from=<robin.listas@...>, size=1902, nrcpt=1 (queue active) <2.6> 2014-02-16 13:43:10 minas-tirith postfix 5963 - - disconnect from localhost[127.0.0.1] <2.6> 2014-02-16 13:43:11 minas-tirith postfix 5973 - - Untrusted TLS connection established to smtp.telefonica.net[86.109.99.70]:25: TLSv1 with cipher EDH-RSA-DES-CBC3-SHA (168/168 bits) <2.6> 2014-02-16 13:43:11 minas-tirith postfix 5972 - - Untrusted TLS connection established to smtp.telefonica.net[86.109.99.70]:25: TLSv1 with cipher EDH-RSA-DES-CBC3-SHA (168/168 bits) <2.6> 2014-02-16 13:43:11 minas-tirith postfix 5973 - - 2B8E5183B8F: to=<opensuse@opensuse.org>, relay=smtp.telefonica.net[86.109.99.70]:25, delay=1.1, delays=0.23/0.13/0.69/0.1, dsn=2.0.0, status=sent (250 <52FCE26000148444> Mail accepted) <2.6> 2014-02-16 13:43:11 minas-tirith postfix 1944 - - 2B8E5183B8F: removed <2.6> 2014-02-16 13:43:11 minas-tirith postfix 5972 - - 2D2CB185578: to=<opensuse@opensuse.org>, relay=smtp.telefonica.net[86.109.99.70]:25, delay=1.2, delays=0.19/0.15/0.75/0.13, dsn=2.0.0, status=sent (250 <52FCE26000148445> Mail accepted) Thus the dupplicate email here. if I understand yhe logs, each have it's unique ID so two ID and two different content (pgp) makes two messages. Why is pgp different jdd -- http://www.dodin.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

True.
so two ID and two different content (pgp) makes two messages. Why is pgp different
Well, that's the problem. Th. sent both. The same second (my timestamps do not discriminate more). The text is the same. I signed one email, click send, and I got a message box that indicated that Th. was trying to cpy sent mail tomail folder. It kept trying for a minute, till I aborted, when I noticed that I already had two new emails from me in the inbox. I have an inkling that it happens when I send an email soon after restore from hibernation. - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. the only thing I noticed that could looks a bit like this is that when a message fail, it's copied in the draft folder and not removed when finally sent by "retry" (th 24.3, OS13.1, but old feature) jdd -- http://www.dodin.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
