RE: [SLE] Samba Installation Help
I uninstalled the Samba version that is available with SuSE 7.3
Professional. This is a previous version that installs in a different
location than the latest version of Samba (/etc/Samba), and I don't want the
previous version. I haven't even gotten past compiling the binaries. My
assistant is running a freakin' paragraph of "flags" along with
'./configure' but this just doesn't sound correct.

Mike,
far too complex!!
Q#1: did you install the Samba (smb) package?
If no, run YaST2 and install it, if yes
As pointed out in one earlier post today, open the runlevel editor and make
the smbd demon run by default.
Then edit the initd.conf and uncomment the line with 'swat' - reboot. After
that, open a browser (Konq, Netscape, Mozilla) and go to
http://localhost:901 and enter 'root' as user. Now you can start configuring
Samba with a UI. Much easier, believe me!!!
