I have a video camera with a firewire connection, which I've used in the past to connect to my SUSE box and download the video for later editing. However, it's not working any more - the PC doesn't seem to recognise that there's a camera attached. /var/log/messages reports: Dec 12 17:01:19 linux kernel: ieee1394: Error parsing configrom for node 0-00:1023 Dec 12 17:01:20 linux kernel: ieee1394: Error parsing configrom for node 0-01:1023 Dec 12 17:01:20 linux kernel: ieee1394: Node suspended: ID:BUS[0-00:1023] GUID[00601d0000013781] Dec 12 17:01:21 linux kernel: ieee1394: Node resumed: ID:BUS[0-00:1023] GUID[00601d0000013781] Dec 12 17:01:22 linux kernel: ieee1394: Current remote IRM is not 1394a-2000 compliant, resetting... I'm not sure whether I was running 8.2 or 9.1 when last I used this camera (back in September), but I'm using 9.1 now. Any ideas gratefully received! I don't know if can be useful, but on my linux box running SUSE 9.1 PRO I had to load these modules: raw1394, dv1394 and video1394. -- \ | / (@ @) -----oOO-(_)-OOo---------- Vari Massimiliano varimass@tiscali.it ------------------------------

With what command were these loaded? John -- John Pettigrew Headstrong Games john@headstrong-games.co.uk Fun : Strategy : Price http://www.headstrong-games.co.uk/ Board games that won't break the bank Knossos: escape the ever-changing labyrinth before the Minotaur catches you!

try first: #lsmod | grep 1394 this will list installed modules. If none, try to load dem with: #modprobe raw1394 same for the others. Sunny -- Get Firefox http://www.spreadfirefox.com/?q=affiliates&id=10745&t=85

#modprobe raw1394
That was it - thanks :-) It's now working properly - the camera is recognised and I can record the video. Glad it works. :) Now, if you want these modules to be loaded on system boot, you can go in yast/System/sysconfig/System/Kernel and add these modules in MODULES_LOAD filed. You can enter as many modules as you wish, separating them with space. Have fun Sunny -- Get Firefox http://www.spreadfirefox.com/?q=affiliates&id=10745&t=85

I don't think so - I only need to link the camera occasionally so I'll keep the instructions to hand for next time. No point loading too many superfluous modules!
