[opensuse] NetworkManager issues in 11.2
I am having issues connecting to a wireless network using NetworkManager in 11.2. I am using the same settings as another machine that is running 11.1. When I turn the NetworkManager off I can connect to the wireless AP. I am using WEP, GNOME desktop. The wireless hardware is Intel PRO/Wireless 5100 AGN (same as on the 11.1 machine that works). The iwlagn driver is used by the kernel according to lspci -k. The log of the AP doesn't show anything. On the 11.1 machine I have a firmware package (iwl5000-ucode) which no longer appears to exist in 11.2 Are there instructions somewhere in getting NetworkManager working again? Help is appreciated. Hi Robert http://en.opensuse.org/Tracking_down_wireless_problems http://userbase.kde.org/NetworkManagement (I wrote this for KDE network management, but since it proposes back-to-back testing vs nm-applet it works just as well for your problem). You don't say if it works with other APs - if it does, then the disappearing firmware package is probably not relevant. Hi Will, Thanks, this is a lot of good information. Somehow I was able to make it work, the sad part is that in openSUSE 11.1 it just worked without having to fiddle with it. Anyway, after I had the connection established using an if-up setup via YaST and used it for a while I decided to just try and switch back to NM. For some reason it now works. I used the connection I had previously configured and that didn't work and now it works. Beats me. The "cure" also survived a reboot. Oh well, it works now, moving on. Having plenty of other problems with 11.2, should not have upgraded :( Thanks for your pointers, I will bookmarks them so I can remember the next time I am having trouble. Robert
