Odd, I thought I saw a response to this the other day. Basically, the question is really if the controller is supported, not the disk itself. At least that is what I recall seeing. -- John LeMay KC2KTH Senior Enterprise Consultant NJMC | http://www.njmc.com | Phone 732-557-4848 Specializing in Microsoft and Unix based solutions

You will most likely have to update the kernel. I doubt that 8.1's stock kernel can handle the SATA controllers..of any kind. You might see if 3ware has a controller card w/ driver that you could get to work with it. Otherwise your best bet is to upgrade. -- Ben Rosenberg ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org The IQ and the life expectancy of the average American recently passed each other going in the opposite direction.

Silicon Image SATA chipsets appear to be supported in 8.1 and the driver is compiled in. I have no idea how well it works because I don't have a drive to plug into mine, but Silicon Image appears to have put a lot of work into SATA under Linux so it's probably a good bet. - -- James Oakley Engineering - SolutionInc Ltd. joakley@solutioninc.com http://www.solutioninc.com -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.2-rc1-SuSE (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE+0mGZ+FOexA3koIgRAvgKAJ9bAYfc9PpcIKs9wK0nypGAkbfinQCgm0/A 39y4g/nWs7hN1zgUyrJ8v04= =RFg2 -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
