SuSE 8.0 Pro installation experience: lilo package failure, registration failure
First attempt installing from DVD (manual selection of single packages, new install in the partitions previously used for SuSE 6.3): - package "lilo.*.rpm" not found - hangs after 97% of packages installed Second attempt from DVD (default + office + all KDE): - package "lilo.*.rpm" not found - installs everything else seemingly without problem - fails after reboot (starts Win98) The lilo package is present however, seemingly in the correct location on the DVD. Booting Linux isn't possible, using "boot installed system" from the DVD starts Win98. The rescue system does work. Is there a way to install lilo after booting the rescue system? I prefer not having to install a third time from the CD's. Next: trying to register at SuSE First attempt: Everything seems fine, except no email message from SuSE. Retrying: Immediately an email from SuSE claiming my key was already used ... Sent them an email with the explanation. Afterwards I checked the printout I made from the first registration attempt: - no reference of my email adress - at the bottom of the page: "Within a few seconds you will receive an email ..."?? It seems giving a phone number during registration is enough to mess up things... Evert
