[SuSE Linux] Setting up XF86 and my G200 - Help
I just loaded up a box with 5.3 and now I need to to know what files to grab to get the G200 support into XF86 ? I seem to recall this discussed somewhere but as I don't have access to back e-mails, would someone please post this. Thanks so much. -Dee - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>
I've got the exact same problem you do! You should to go to the XFree86 site at
<A HREF="http://www.xfree86.org/</a">http://www.xfree86.org/</a> They probably have what you need. I went to that page
and learned that the MGA driver in the current SVGA server (XF86_SVGA) supports
the G200. O.k., so far so good. The thing is; that server was already included in the original
package and if I recall correctly you choose the server after you specify your the card.
That's where the problem is, really; The G200 isn't specified so I'd guess that it's the
driver that's not included. What it all boils down to is; is the driver included with the server?
Forgive the stupid questions but I'm used to just downloading a driver and installing it!
The SuSE manual is pretty good but they don't really cover things like this. How, for example,
do you install downloaded packages? This is crucial information.
What I meant, of course(!) was HOW do you install downloaded packages!
Yatsen Ng wrote:
I've got the exact same problem you do! I've done it this way, and it worked for both my Matrox Mill II's and my G200-- 1. Download either (a) the XF86Setup, xsvga, XFree86 3.3.2 that came with the SuSE 5.3 CD + the special matrox.rpm (has the G200 driver) from the SuSE ftp site; or, (b) the XFree86-3.3.3-3.rpm (which includes the Matrox G2 driver in its SVGA server) + whatever xfonts you want (xfnt100.., xfntbig..., xfntscl... + xfsetup-3.3.3-3.i386.rpm + xsvga-3.3.3-3.i386.rpm). 2. Install either (a) or (b) using rpm -Uhv <whateverthenameis>.rpm --force 3. Then run XF86Setup and pick your mouse, kbd, video card, monitor limits, resolution + color depth, then try it. -- Regards, Jep ________________________________ Penguin inside! I tried to download the matrox.rpm from the SuSE ftp site but didn't quite succeed in doing so. Keep in mind that I tried to download using windows, since I haven't managed to set up linux yet because of all this crap I'm running into (I'm trying to, that's why I keep posting these messages!). First of all, the RealPlayer plugin looks kind of weird (all bloated) and second, after the download I get an error message when I try to play the thing. This is the first time I've encountered RealPlayer during a download. What's the deal with this? The bottomline is; I can't download from the SuSE ftp site. I also looked for the matrox.rpm on the XFree86 site but couldn't find it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Jep Hill wrote:
