I reboot my laptop with openSUSE-10.2-Beta1-i386-mini.iso in the cd drive but it boots to the grub menu every time. The laptop will boot the 10.0 cd Is there something else I need to do? (Make the iso bootable?) Thanks, Jerome

Hi Jerome, Is the 10.0 CD burned from iso or it is retail version. Normal is that iso image contains boot section, and all you have to do is to burn it as iso image. When you look at CD, that you made with openSUSE-10.2-Beta1-i386-mini.iso in file manager, what you see. Some directory structure like on FTP server or just one file openSUSE-10.2-Beta1-i386-mini.iso? -- Regards, Rajko M.

Hello Rajko, Retail, this is my second attempt at the iso internet download method; the first was 10.2alpha5.iso, same problem.

When I opened it in Konqueror it opened K3b. When I open it in Krusader I see three folders: El Torito Boot,ISO9660,Joliet level 3. Jerome

If you have broadband and your installation target already has some linux installed somewhere, you don't need a CD to begin your installation. Just download the installation linux and initrd to a place grub or lilo can find them, along with appropriate kernel parameters for the installer. http://en.opensuse.org/Installation_without_CD -- "The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped." Something is bad, it should show some of directories that you can find on you retail CD. I wasn't able to use Krusader as it crashed two times in the row, but what you have seen is not what you should see. Considering result with Konqueror it is some bad deal with burning like bad raw CD, to high burning speed, problem with burner program settings, etc or reading. Such things like El Torito Boot, ISO9660 and Joliet level 3, you can see if you look in iso file with some raw viewer, not on mounted CD. It would be interesting when you put CD in a drive, wait till drive recognized CD, ie. stop spinning, what will tell command (console) mount You may try to mount iso using loop device (console, root) mount -t iso9660 -o loop openSUSE-10.2-Beta1-i386-mini.iso /mnt If there is no error reports, go to the directory /mnt and you have to see in Konqueror file structure, not El Torito etc. The other solution that will not solve problem with burning, but will with installing mentioned Felix: http://en.opensuse.org/Installation_without_CD or http://en.opensuse.org/Installation_using_images -- Regards, Rajko M.

Both above look fine. Burning doesn't work. I would try to use low burn speed. It is usefull with some errors in media (raw CD) and vendors overstatement of max speed. You can change that in k3b. It will show up in window before burning. It is usually set to Auto, reduce it to a half. If this doesn't help, than you have troubleshooting ahead. ...... -- Regards, Rajko M.

OK, I can boot the network CD for 10.2. The instructions at http://en.opensuse.org/Development_Version say "Point the YaST installer to the installation repository (by pressing F3 and then F4). I'm at the beginning of the installer. If I press F4 I get the option of installation source but then I'm asked for Server and Directory. A search of opensuse for "Package Repositories 10.2 beta2" yielded no hits. What are the Server and Directory names for the Package Repositories of 10.2 beta2? for network download. What are the Server and Directory names for the Package Repositories of 10.2 beta2? for network download. I believe you want to use the factory repositories.

I used 'http://ftp.opensuse.org' for the server and '/pub/opensuse/repositories'' for the directory but nothing happens after that. It looks like it's waiting for a timeout that never happens. I also downloaded the Remastered 10.1. The first time the install process crashed when I told it to ignore the fact that OpenOffice_org-2.0.2-27.12 failed its integrity check. The second time around I told the installer not to load OpenOffice but it still crashed for the same reason. No, there's nothing else you should need to do. Maybe verify the md5 checksum? I'm using the mini-iso too, and it works fine. Per Jessen, Zurich -- http://www.spamchek.com/ - managed email security. Starting at SFr5/month/user.

md5 checksum is verified. I've tried this on two different laptops with the same result. Jerome

Please check the contents of your self-burned CD and in case you see a single .iso file on it, then it was not burned correctly. If you see folders/files then still could confirm that its intact e.g. with md5sum. Pelibali

I do see files and folders and the md5sum is correct. Jerome
