Under KDE, is there a way to restart the X server *without* logging out and logging in again? Paul Abrahams

The short answer is, "no".
The reason for this is that all the processes, including your KDE
session, run attached (for want of a better word) to the X server. Kill
X, and everything that's connected to it dies.

Peter.

If you mean "can the user remain logged in" then no, I don't think so. If you mean "is there a way to do it without logging out" then you can either hit ctrl-alt-bkspc for a dirty escape route, or use "init 3" from a console Dylan
