kpackage doesn't recognize RPM file type
(SuSE 7.3) About a week ago, I ran YOU & got a whole bunch of updates, including KDE. Everything seemed to go just fine - no problems. Last night I was going to install an RPM, but when I opened kpackage I discovered that it would no longer recognize RPMs!! It would only recognize .tar, .gz, .tar.gz, etc. I tried changing kpackage "Options" but couldn't find anything to help. Anyone else seen this problem? Solutions? Maybe just re-install kpackage from the CDs........ tia, Mike ------------------------------------------ Cleary_Mike@emc.com ------------------------------------------ "A wink is as good as a nod to a blind horse.: - anon
Hi I have the same "problem" after upgrading to KDE 2.2.2 I believe that kpackage in 2.2.2 does not regognize the mime-type, or does really not deal with RPM anymore... Anyway, I'm not so affected about this, because I usually run rpm from comand-line anyway, but actually browsing installed packages would be soooo nice to have back..! Jaska. Viestissä Tiistai 8. Mike ------------------------------------------ Mike, Several of us noted this problem earlier and were distraut at the fact it didn't work anymore. Seems the latest kdeadmin.rpm file, which kpackage is a part of, was not built to use the rpm any longer. Our SuSE friend, Anders Johansson on this list, managed to figure out the

The newbie that I am, he had to hold my hand thru the process, but I now have an optimized version of kdeadmin and kpackage works again! Look thru the SuSE mail archives for the mails entitled "Broken KPackage" and you will find your answer to the problem and the remedy as well. Hi, (I repeat my mail from another thread, because it really belongs here:) I can confirm the good news from Jose Thadeu Cavalcante, the new kdeadmin-2.2.2-82.rpm from SuSE fixes the problem. Big big BUT: You have to deinstall the old kdeadmin before ("rpm -e kdeadmin"), and then do a new install (I did "rpm -U kdeadmin-2.2.2-82.rpm", -Uvh etc. should do as well) ,otherwise the problem does not dissapear. I first did just the update (rpm -Uvh) and the problem did NOT dissapear. Then, after reading Jose's message, I just got the idea to do the rpm -e first, and now it recognizes .rpms again, as it should be. HTH, Matt
