Well, I purchased a pulstek OpticFilm 7600i a few months ago. It works great with openSuse 11.4, as long as you have VirtualBox and Windows XP installed. I know, I loathe Windows as much as the next man, but sometimes discretion is the better part of valor. I thing you need to define your actual needs and what you want the scanner to produce. I am an "average" user but inclined towards good quality and for this purpose I bought the Epson Perfection V300 Photo which does my photos/slides effortlessly. Produces everything which I throw at it with most satisfactory results. But then, this was last year and so now there would have been "progress" and betterer model(s) are no doubt available :-) . (BTW, you will need to install the drivers from Epson for Linux.) Thanks, Duaine I use an old Nikon Coolscan III with VueScan with great results in openSUSE 11.4. Mike -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
Thank you Michael and Basil. Off of eBay, I went with Nikon Model LS-30 Coolscan III Film Scanner. Supposed to be fully supported by XSane. SCSI interface? Do you have a SCSI adaptor? BC -- "The time has been That, when the brains were out, the man would die," "Macbeth", Shakespeare -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Just tried to reply to your mail but your AT&T rejects the messages because of some crappy "blacklist" or something (nice friendly carrier you have there :-( ) . Anyway, what I wrote was: Aha, good. Reason why I asked is that a friend of mine used to borrow his friend's scanner which had SCSI connection but after he "misplaced" the adaptor he had to go and buy a 'normal' scanner :-) . It wasn't all that long ago that all scanners were SCSI devices. There must be a lot of them still in use. Anyone who has been seriously using computers for a while probably has a SCSI card in his junk box. (I do.) Googling found an Adaptek for prices ranging from $5.00 to over $100, so there's one for you somewhere, if you don't have one. --doug -- Blessed are the peacekeepers...for they shall be shot at from both sides. --A. Nowadays the problem is that more and more boards come with one or even no PCI slot and the only SCSI controllers for PCI express are serial SCSI ones. Philipp -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
