I don't remember who posted it but I want to try and set it up ......... Meaning, having TB filters for all the people I know and have the rest go to a Junk / Unknown folder for review. I've got the first part working (all the people I know) - how do I get the rest to go to an Junk / Unknown folder ? Rules execute in the order listed, so create one filter that does the first part, then create a filter that runs last that deals with the junk/ unknown folder. Thanks to everyone - however, for now, I think I found "my" optimal procedure: 1) put everyone I know (as well as customer, etc emails) in the address book 2) Then let the Junk procedures move anything else to the Junk folder 3) As needed above, check the Junk folder for legit emails then add them in the address book so next time they will not end up in the Junk folder. I've been using it the last couple of days - and - so far, I like it ! Confused again......I thought the Junk Control was to - automatically - mark non-address book entries as Junk. I'm finding more and more than - I - have to mark Junk - - - - WHY ? - - - - Then was is all this "training" thing all about ? -- Duaine Hechler Piano, Player Piano, Pump Organ - Tuning, Servicing & Rebuilding (314) 838-5587 / dahechler@att.net / www.hechlerpianoandorgan.com Home & Business user of Linux - 13 years -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Your initial assumption was wrong. The explanation is here: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Junk_Mail_Controls There is far more to junk detection than comparing against your address list. For the record: I don't use this, because I have have Spamassassin running on my inhouse mail server, and it is far more accurate, AND I use a few Gmail accounts for things like reading this list. Gmail's spam detection is almost perfect. You drag something to the Spam "Folder" in Gmail and you will never be bothered by that spam again. Its pretty pointless to run any spam filtering against Gmail. You won't improve on what Gmail already does. -- _____________________________________ ---This space for rent--- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Just not being in your address book will not mean it's junk mail. It just means that what is in your address book is definitely not junk mail. Everytime you "tell", click the "Junk" button, Thunderbird you think something is junk it learns over time what you want to get and what you don't want. As I said before, you need to spend some time working on the ATT/Yahoo web mail training Yahoo what you think is junk. They have some excellent junk mail filters if you work with them for a while. Keeps that junk from even getting to your computer. -- A cat is a puzzle with no solution. Cats are tiny little women in fur coats. Right above the " message preview" there's a row of buttons. One of them says "Junk". Whatever you don't want will show up in your "Inbox" if you have everything you do want filtered to go somewhere else. Under "Edit" > "Account Settings" you will find multiple "Junlk Settings". When you receive a message that you consider "junk" click the "Junk" button. Over time Thunderbird will "learn" what you consider junk and deal with it as you specify in your "Junk Settings". I recommend that you spend some time with your ATT/Yahoo account online to "teach" it also. I find that Yaho has some excellent junk filters if properly "taught" what you see as junk. Roughly 99+% of my spam/junk now winds up in the Yahoo "Spam" folder. It never even makes it to my computer. Less that one percent of the mail I do want ever goes to "Spam" now. I still check it regularly but seldom find my good mail in there. I've been checking mine several times a day for over two years now "teaching" Yahoo what I want and don't want. About once or twice a month something gets through to the Thunderbird junk folder now. New sources of spam/junk appear all the time so it's an ongoing battle. The up side is that yahoo is doing a really good job of recognizing new sources and dealing appropriately with it. -- A cat is a puzzle with no solution. Cats are tiny little women in fur coats. IIRC, the filters are run in order, so create a junk filter that moves everything left to the other folder. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
