How about putting a cheap 10 dollar second ethernet card in the server, just for an internal network?
Zentara, Am I missing something? Can true console access be attained via ethernet? For instance, if I need to boot single-user mode and do some maintenance, can I do this via ethernet? Right now, I reboot and access lilo via the local keyboard/monitor. Can lilo itself use a network connection for control? Then once running single user mode, is ethernet access available? A second issue is kernel dumps/error messages, but getting lilo and single user control is a critical aspect for any console in my opinion. Greg Freemyer

No. As far as I know, BIOS in IA32 machines can be accessed only via a keyboard or, in some cases, via a serial interface. If the serial interface is not available, then a product like "the PC Weasel 2000" (http://www.linuxjournal.com/article.php?sid=4557) can provide it. Unfortunately, it's not cheap. Otherwise I would have bought it. -- Alexandr.Malusek@imv.liu.se
