Hi, Does anyone have a system successfully running DOSEMU (or any other comparable DOS emulator) working under a 64-bit version of SuSE? Whenever I've tried running DOSEMU I get the following error message: vm86plus service not available in your kernel Is there anything I can do to resolve this? Greg

You might want to try the amd64 list. I tried dosemu the other day (x86_64) and got the same error (with wine as well) trying to get a self-executing zip file to unzip (BIOS update). -- Joe Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Registered Linux user 231871

For self-executing zip files try coping them with an extension of .zip. You should be able to unzip them using the linux unzip command. This works with .arj files as well. -- Regards, Graham Smith ---------------------------------------------------------

Thanks, that actually worked. I learn something on this list every day. Thanks Graham. -- Joe Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Registered Linux user 231871

The released version is 32-bit and it looks as though it needs a 32-bit kernel. I tried building it from sources, no luck. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce .... Hamradio G3VBV and keen Flyer =====LINUX ONLY USED HERE=====

correct, this extension is not supported by the 64bit kernel. Since I get this on both dosemu and wine, is it a reasonable assumption that neither will work with a 64bit machine. -- Joe Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Registered Linux user 231871

?? wine works perfect here on an AMD64 machine in the default installation. WINE works on AMD64 Linux. (It does not need vm86) Ciao, Marcus

So is it possible to run a DOS executable via WINE? I'll give it a shot later today when I have a chance.

There is only bare support for running DOS executeables in WINE. Use dosbox or dosemu. Ciao, Marcus

dosbox builds and runs on x86_64, I'd forgotten about it as dosemu has been fine up until now. Just tried one .exe and it's OK. I like the ability to mount any directory as drive C, far easier than getting executables in the right directory for dosemu. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce .... My only issue with dosbox is that the fonts don't come up right at all... maybe I'm missing some config settings, but it's not really readable for use. I'll have to look into this and see what's not setup right.

I've only run text-based applications under dosbox, the fonts were OK, no settings were needed. Shows you how long ago I've used dos, can't remember if it ever did graphics, don't think it did. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce .... Hamradio G3VBV and keen Flyer =====LINUX ONLY USED HERE=====
