Anybody have a link to the real DVD for downloading. I don't/can't use bittorrent.

on the opensuse download page, switch from bittorrent to http/ftp download, #3 this will download the iso not the bittorrent config file
This is the problem. I have selected the http/ftp download under section 3 and currently I am getting a page error but earlier when it worked, I was only given a 153 MB (that number might be in error but close) .iso file for downloading, not a 4.1 GB DVD iso. I just tried again, same error. It could be just that the server is on overload but there should be more than one mirror holding the DVD iso for dl. I am seeing other messages that others are having problems with BT as well so that is not a solution either. - Clint -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

At the left hand side of the page, there is a link to a mirrors list. Likely answer: use a client which supports files bigger than 4 GB. Bye, Steve -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I think they mean much the same thing. I have assumed they meant: GA - General Availability (ie. Released) GM - Gold Master (The ISO that is going to be released. Still called GM after release.) So in most organizations, the GM is created and tested for a short while prior to it being made GA. For 10.2 the DVD iso was not immediately available, and there is a script available to take the cd iso's and create a DVD from them, it might work with the 10.3 images. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
I was seeing this problem yesterday. I tried it again today and it worked fine (For 32-bit DVD anyway) On Fri, 2007-10-05 at 18:51 -0400, Mike McMullin wrote:

If you mean makeSUSEdvd, it will work with 10.3 and will make a bootable DVD image[0]. The only problem is, 10.3 comes as either a single DVD install with either KDE or Gnome as the desktop environment, or a DVD. The 5-CD installation releases no longer exist. s/golden/gold/. Whether it's actually gold depends on the type of coating and pigment used in the disc layer. May as well be azo, cyanine or phthalocyanine. Really golden discs like in the old days (1995) are rare these days (most switched to azo around '98, and then to phthalocyanine during the inet boom) because cyanine is unstable over the years. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Huh? Of course it is not gold (a precious and expensive metal), but it is "golden" (of the highest quality). It's all metaphor anyway, since said "masters" only exist a the pressing plant for stamped discs. (And I don't see why gold could ever have been used—it's too soft. Gold's only really useful properties are high electrical and thermal conductivity and resistance to corrosion.) The "golden master" we speak of and care about is just (just?) a collection of bits. "Gold master" is an industry phrase, not subject to debate. It's just what it's called The reason for it comes from how the original wax recordings were mastered, back at the turn of the previous century (google it)

No one ever uses 24 carat gold for anything. Most things called "gold" is mixed up with about 1/4 of silver, to harden it, making 18 carat gold
Gold's only really useful properties are high electrical and thermal conductivity and resistance to corrosion.)
It's also by far and away the most malleable substance in relatively high availability, which means you can make much thinner sheets of it -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Well, fine, but I'm in the same industry, and I've always heard "golden." Google produces 77,400 hits for the (quoted) search "golden master", including http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_master and 140,000 for "gold master" (appearing in passing in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master_recording at Wikipedia).
