I'm using kinternet to control my dial-up to Freeserve broadband using an Alcatel Speedtouch USB modem (pppoa). But how do I use the command line to dial or hang up the connection? If it were normal dial-up I could use wvdial or a script that called pppd with a chat file. But what are the equivalents under SuSE 8.0 for adsl? Kinternet is all very fine, but sometimes I like the control that the command line gives. Also, I had a reasonable understanding of normal modem dial-up, but I feel a little naked now because I don't really have much idea of the dsl0 interface and how it all fits together (I know that there are scripts in /etc/sysconfig/network but I don't really understand what they're doing yet). Anyone know how you work ADSL from the command line? Best wishes - Ken Payne

as root, pppd call adsl launches the connection killall pppd stops it. fxf -- ______________________ Courtesy of SuSE Linux
