Hi all, I use OpenSuse with GRUB installed. I want to install another OS but GRUB doesn't let me to boot from CD. How can I change the setting of GRUB so my system can be booted from CD if it is set in BIOS to boot from CD? Thanks, D. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Grub should have nothing to do with this at all. Set the boot order in the BIOS to boot first from the CD. -- Moral indignation is jealousy with a halo. -- HG Wells -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Grub shouldn't change settings like that (should it?!?). Have you checked the cd's integrity or checked the .iso you downloaded's md5 sum? Perhaps you could use the opensuse disk you used to install to see if they are still bootable. Hope this helps -- Best Regards, David Miller -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
Yeah. It works. Sorry it was my fault. I restarted OpenSuse and it detected my bootable CD. Thanks, D. David Miller wrote:

Ok, there is a bit of an understanding problem here. Your BIOS ought to configure the boot order, and CD-ROM needs to be before the HD with your boot record on it. The Boot process passes to grub when it hits that device, so it seems that your boot order is not setup to boot from the CD-Rom. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
If you change your BIOS settings, you should not change your GRUB. That is, if your BIOS is set to boot from CD-ROM, you don't need GRUB that boots from CD-ROM, as it is already built into the SUSE CD. But if you boot from HDD, you definetely need to add "boot from CD" option to GRUB. I don't really know how-to add this GRUB entry. -- -Alexey Eremenko "Technologov" -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
