I have been looking into the LPI certifications and was wandering if anyone had any input. Is that cert well recognized. Would my money be better spent on other training...etc? Thanks

I would recommend the lpi exams over the novell exams, or comptia exam any day of the week, the problem with the novell exams (not just in the extra cost) is the simulator - which is ie (windoze) based, and it crashes. Novell 'cde' exam takers will know that practical exams form novell where always buggy. and hard to find places where you take them Novell has some way to go before I would recommend them LPI has less of these 'problems'. Doing the Linux + exam from Comptia exam is considered basic by lpi standards. Novell's approach to testing really depends upon how far away you are from mst timezone is a illustration of the problems both global test centres and takers can have with novells 'practical' tests Linux can be complex, and nobody walks around the the complete syntax of the apache webserver in your head, I dont.

That is more due to the vendor they use for testing than anything. The whole program is written by someone else, like prometric.

As a CDE I resemble that remark. I had to take my tests in Tampa, FL. I live in Nashville, TN! And what wonderful benefits I've seen from it. (none). My CDE cert, and $1.56 in the local cafeteria will buy me a cup of Starbucks coffee. And for some reason they never require proof of the CDE. However, the bugginess I have never encountered. The Machine I was using for the practicum lost connection once, but that was because someone was messing with the connection.

I have to agree here, I like the practicum approach, however they really need to make it more accessible before it can be successful!
