[SuSE Linux] My mouse stopped working
I'm relatively new to Linux, and use SuSE. I have never been able to get sound to work, and I heard of a program called OSS. I tried it out, but when I played Quake, the sound would become choppy. I knew I could re-compile my kernel, but I didn't have any information about my sound card. OSS ended up being a giant help, as I got all my IRQ's, Hardware addresses, and DMA's from it. I recompiled my kernel and my sound works great. But there is a catch, my mouse doesn't work. I have run yast and set it up and I have run SaX and tried to set it up there too. It just doesn't want to work. I use a serial mouse, and seeing as I didn't touch anything else in the menuconfig program, I don't know how it could have gotten messed up. I don't know much about the boot process or anything but when my computer boots, it scrolls "modprobe: modprobe: can't locate module char-major-4" quite a few times before continuing. I figured this might also have something to do with it. Your help is greatly appreciated. I've got exactely the same problem yesterday nigth, when I've tried to make sound working. I have compiled the kernel, and the after the reboot, the mouse stopped worked. Bur I've noticed a message containing theses words during the boot time (sorry, I don(t remember the exact content: SERIAL-PORT...MULTI-DEVICE (or -PORT?)...SHARED IRQ enabled... I've made a "make clean" (it was the first time), a "make dep" and "make zImage", and now this message has disapeared, all is right. There was just some dust somewhere ine the source tree :-) Ph.
