RE: [SLE] ppp problems
Thankyou for that. There's always a bit more to learn! Have fun! -----Original Message----- From: Sjoerd Hiemstra [mailto:shiems@wish.nl] Sent: Monday, January 14, 2002 5:41 PM To: SuSE Linux mailing list Subject: Re: [SLE] ppp problems Graham Paul wrote:

By setting 'Stupid Mode= 1', wvdial wont try and process the 'login:' and starts ppp as soon as the connection is established. You should then be online. Exit wvdial and end the connection with the usual Ctrl-C.
As I said, this is my understanding of what goes on and it works for me. If anyone can explain this better, then please post some details.
After login and password check, the ISP should issue a string that wvdial recognizes as a 'ppp negotiation' (those strange signs, such as ~[7f]}#@!}!}!}}?}!}$}%\}"}&[7f][7f][7f][7f]}%}&-E}%}6}'}"}(}"}1}$ ), but this is not always the case, which is another reason why authentification could fail. It should be noted that the checking of login name and password still takes place, but in another way, namely, through the pap/chap authentification process. It is called 'stupid mode' because ppp is started blindly no matter what the ISP does, but this appears to be pretty clever!
