OT: Switch settings for a COMPAQ 1400 VA UPS unit?
Hello all. This is a bit OT but as it is a prestep for a server setup... I have obtained a COMPAQ 1400VA ups with some kind of monitoring output via a RS-232 type jack on the back. There is also 8 dip-switches to play with. There was no manual or documentation with it, so i have no idea what the switches do, or what pins carries what signal. Has anyone any info on this? Tried Googling, but came up with nothing. The markings on the back says; DELTEC A Fiskars Company Type: PRA 1400i Part no: 142228-005 Serial no: A00269932 -- -- /Rikard ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- email : rikard.j@rikjoh.com web : http://www.rikjoh.com mob : +46 (0)736 19 76 25 ------------------------ Public PGP fingerprint ---------------------------- < 15 28 DF 78 67 98 B2 16 1F D3 FD C5 59 D4 B6 78 46 1C EE 56 >

So DELTEC was a Compaq OEM supplier. Fiskars apparently sold DELTEC to Exide around 1996, so maybe www.exide.com can help? I've seen a number of references to a manual in MSWORD format, but the actual page is gone. http://homepage.powerup.com.au/~csanders/deltec.doc ... Doesn't the box have a Compaq part#? That's often a good way of getting hold of Compaq documentation. /Per Jessen, Zürich -- http://www.spamchek.ch/ - managed anti-spam and anti-virus solution. I tried that very page just prior to sending the mail.. It gives a "The page you are looking for cannot be found. There is nothing on this server at that address. The page you are looking for may have moved. Please check the address and try again." I tried looking at Compaq's pages too. But they are a bitch finding anything on... -- -- /Rikard ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- email : rikard.j@rikjoh.com web : http://www.rikjoh.com mob : +46 (0)736 19 76 25 ------------------------ Public PGP fingerprint ---------------------------- < 15 28 DF 78 67 98 B2 16 1F D3 FD C5 59 D4 B6 78 46 1C EE 56 >

Yeah - it's often much better just googling for the compaq p/n or s/n. /Per Jessen, Zürich -- http://www.spamchek.dk/ - managed anti-spam and anti-virus solution.

Went on the phone with Compaq support, and not even they could find anything on it. Not even after 15 minutes of searching their own internal pages... Oh they have had the model all right, but they have nothing of value on it more than general specs and the software for the server to be able to shutdown cleanly. Nothing in any way of documentary. I hate it when a useful item fall through like that. -- -- /Rikard ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- email : rikard.j@rikjoh.com web : http://www.rikjoh.com mob : +46 (0)736 19 76 25 ------------------------ Public PGP fingerprint ---------------------------- < 15 28 DF 78 67 98 B2 16 1F D3 FD C5 59 D4 B6 78 46 1C EE 56 >

Absolutely, me too. Check out this - I'm not sure if there's anything of interest, but : http://www.techtamed.com/deltec.htm /Per Jessen, Zürich

HP-Compaq is about as bad as bad gets. Support documentation for their products has a finite life. I tried to get a manual and service information for a gift LaserJet 4M that apparently needs repair (code 57, which I can't find explained anywhere on the web), both by web and by phone, and was told to buy a new printer. -- "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord." Much depends on the product; manuals and patches for business products are kept much longer than for consumer ditto. /Per Jessen, Zürich
