Hi, More stuff about xdm and console... I run 5.3. I was just wondering if someone could replicate what I am getting: 1. login as root at tty0 2. # xdm --> to start the xdm 3. login as root at the xdm prompt 4. open an xterm 5. # w --> to view tty's used (root should be on tty0 and some ttyp0) 6. # fuser -k /dev/tty0 --> to kill all the processes that are using tty0 7. # w --> to make sure root is no longer on tty0 8. # killall xdm --> to go back to console login prompt. Now try to login at tty0... --> all control chars are displayed instead of being interpreted. The tty becomes unusable until reboot. Right now my tty0,1,2 are in this state... I had to kill root user from tty0 while running xdm because people thought it was me logged in at the console and would send talk request (disregarding the idle time of that root user) making this machine beep every N seconds. This mainly happens at night :-) So, it is just interesting if you guys could replicate this.
