I am having a problem with ppp daemon. When I try to connect to my ISP with my 28.800 modem, it gets connected then the daemon dies. I dont know what is the problem. I am using kppp, and the configuration is correct (accordingly to what the ISP says). My ISP is Tiscali (italian ISP). I am sending you the attachment of the error I get with kppp. Tazio Ceri <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <HEAD> <META content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" http-equiv=Content-Type> <META content="MSHTML 5.00.2314.1000" name=GENERATOR> <STYLE></STYLE> </HEAD> <BODY bgColor=#ffffff> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>I am having a problem with ppp daemon.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>When I try to connect to my ISP with my 28.800 modem,</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>it gets connected then the daemon dies. </FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>I dont know what is the problem. Hi Tazio, There are a number of factors that can cause the errors you are getting. I assume you are using PAP as the autorization method. Most of the problems are associated with the configuration of the options file. /etc/ppp/options It is important when initially setting this file up you do not put any additional options in it until you get it up and working. Use "man options" to get details of the options. The following is an extract of my /etc/ppp/options with some additional comments. ----------------------------------- # /etc/ppp/options noipdefault # Leave debug in until you get ppp to work debug noauth crtscts #kPPP as well as the PPP demon itself try to lock # the modem device. So disable lock # lock modem asyncmap 0 nodetach idle 600 noipx ktune # Using PAP I found that often the ISP did not respond # for quite sometime in busy periods and pppd timed out. # The following overcomes these problems. pap-max-authreq 40 pap-timeout 120 # ---<End of File>--- ------------------------------------ Hope this helps Regards, Graham Smith ---------------------------------- -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
