Indeed... not fancy. I read some of "QUALITE DES DVD+R ET DES DVD-R DISPONIBLES SUR LE MARCHE POUR L’ARCHIVAGE DES DONNEES NUMERIQUES". I noticed they recomend two types of DVD by their name, but they should use instead the "MEDIA ID" that is recorded on blank media: a manufacturer can change the media they sell for another that is worse (or better) and still put the same name in the box label, because many don't really do the manufacturing themselves. I use verbatim -R myself, one of those that study recomends. Two links of mine: How To Choose CD/DVD Archival Media <http://adterrasperaspera.com/blog/2006/10/30/how-to-choose-cddvd-archival-media> Reviews > Blank DVD Media Quality <http://www.digitalfaq.com/reviews/dvd-media.htm> In the second one you can find a list of "MEDIA ID" with qualities. I understand they test thousands of samples, but I don't remember where I read that. I think they said they get results from users that use DVDs in very large quantities. - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
