[S.u.S.E. Linux] YaST and "reachable directory"
In S.u.S.E. 5.1, YaST
Adjustments of installation//Select installation medium//Help
ays, about "Installation from a reachable directory":
The installation from an accessible directory on your harddrive could be
very useful if you are planning to install software which you got via "ftp"
or from a mailbox.
So, wanting to install kdat-1.01-1.i386.rpm which I had got from an ftp site,
I put this file in /root/Kdat and started YaST. After
Adjustments of installation//Select installation medium//
Installation from a reachable directory//
to the request " From which directory do you want to install?" I answered
/root/Kdat
to which the response was
Could not find the installation directory.
Please enter an existing directory.
I then thought I would try to emulate the directory structure on the CD, so put
the file into /root/Kdat/suse -- same result whichever directory I nominated;
and then put it into /root/Kdat/suse/kdat (emulating the CD structure suse/a1
etc) with the same result whichever directory I nominated.
So I conclude that YaST can not be used in this way to install an rpm that has
been placed in a normal HD directory.
Was I doing something wrong (but if so this is NOT evident from any
documentation)? Any comments?
With thanks,
Ted.
