[opensuse] Installation display resolution - Leap 15
Hello folks, I need to increase the text size of the install screens on a fresh Leap 15 install. Laptop is a new HP Spectre 360 which I bought for my partner. The installation screens have extremely small text because of the very high monitor resolution. I've searched Google high and low (OS forums, documentation, etc.,etc) and can't find the answer. Various opensuse documentation say to hit F3 or other Function keys at the Grub2 boot screen before the installation starts, but that produces absolutely no effect. I ran a Leap 15 KDE live USB and pretty much everything works nicely and I can adjust the screen text size on the desktop. Since I have serious vision problems, having very small text size on the installation screens is a very big problem for me. Any help is appreciated, Gustav.. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I believe that it's 3, not F3, that you need to type at the GRUB screen. Or C to get a command line. But I'm not an expert at such things. Have you read this page? https://doc.opensuse.org/documentation/leap/reference/html/book.opensuse.ref... gumb No, that brings you into a non graphic ( old runlevel 3 ) system.

I tried both video=1024x768 and video=800x600 but the install screens don't change. After aborting from the install screens, the text mode graphic screens come up, and those are affected by changing the boot video parameters. Adding the different video modes changes increases

Thanks that page led me to the answer. I tried adding GRUB_GFXMODE=800x600 but it had no effect. But theat link you gave me has a section on vido parameters that directs to this link: https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Linuxrc There is specifies to add "XVideo=1024x768 (or other res) to the kernel boot line). I added XVideo=800x600 and now I have a very readable display. I am going to play with the different modes and see which is best. Yes. When I was faced with this I ended up modifying the entry in /etc/default/grub # Uncomment to disable graphical terminal (grub-pc only) GRUB_TERMINAL=gfxterm # The resolution used on graphical terminal # note that you can use only modes which your graphic card supports via VBE # you can see them in real GRUB with the command `vbeinfo' GRUB_GFXMODE=1280x1024 -- A: Yes. > Q: Are you sure? >> A: Because it reverses the logical flow of conversation. >>> Q: Why is top posting frowned upon? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
