I have a Compaq quad 450 mhz server with 1 geg of ram running 20 pc via XFree86 (under NT4) but when I run Forte the system becomes very very slow and Forte is almost unusable. I previously had SCO 5.0.4 running and it was much faster, I wonder if the kernel needs re-compiling/tuning. I must also say that I am extremely grateful for the very kind help that everyone has given me over the last few weeks without the help I would have been right up the creek. Is their a good administrator book that I could purchase the College has said they will pay for one well up to 40.00 odd pounds. Kindest regards John Proctor. _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com
What is the system "doing" when it becomes so slow? Can you characterize the load better? What does top report? etc, etc. - herman On Wed, 11 Sep 2002, John Proctor wrote: -> ->I have a Compaq quad 450 mhz server with 1 geg of ram running 20 pc via ->XFree86 (under NT4) but when I run Forte the system becomes very very slow ->and Forte is almost unusable. ->I previously had SCO 5.0.4 running and it was much faster, I wonder if the ->kernel needs re-compiling/tuning. -> ->I must also say that I am extremely grateful for the very kind help that ->everyone has given me over the last few weeks without the help I would have ->been right up the creek. -> ->Is their a good administrator book that I could purchase the College has ->said they will pay for one well up to 40.00 odd pounds. ->Kindest regards John Proctor. -> -> ->_________________________________________________________________ ->Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com -> -> ->
