[opensuse] LibreOffice - Avery business card (5371) synchronization
First I am not sure if this is the right place to ask this but the help about says this version is supplied by Novell. I have a business card that was created under an earlier version of openoffice using a blank avery template. On that version I was able to synchronize the other nine cards from the first one. I am now trying to modify the card and synchronize it. I cannot find the option to allow synchronization. If I call up a new business card in writer from File --> New --> Business Card . The select File Properities --> Options you can check synchronize contents. I have found no way under the above mentioned senerio in paragraph one. The problem with selecting the new bussiness card under file is it is not a blank card, it has some formatted fields. Some of which I cannot delete. Does anyone know how I can get around this issue or if I need to report it as a bug. The help screens say to use the options table mentioned above. Found no bugs on this but I'm not sure it is abug. LibreOffice 3.5.2.2 Build ID: 350m1(Build:202) This product was supplied by Novell, Inc.. I would appreciate any help possible. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Here's an alternative answer. Let me suppose your objective is to produce business cards to your own design. In years past I used those Avery card stock; ironically I purchased the packs at Staples. Then I found Staples offered a 2-for-1 promotion. Using their web interface, upload a image of your card (they also had an on-line designer). Colour! Two Sided! The price was right! It was less than what it would have cost me to buy that many packs of Avery stock. So I worked out the design using scribus and WOW! I don't know what pricing your regional Staples (or similar) offers, what specials (they seem to have something every week). What it comes down to, I suppose, is "What are your objectives?". Crafting it yourself is great. I suppose I could change my own oil, grow my own vegetables, keep my own cow for milk, but sometimes its more effective to use the service others offer. I download the binary image DVDs too, rather than compile my own .... YMMV. -- All articles that coruscate with resplendence are not truly auriferous. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Thanks for the idea. I was making a few cards for my wife ( a Writer/publisher of ebooks). I already had the Avery stock (she only needed 20 cards. I final got the Sync to work once by using the template business card and deleting all the preset form parts. I then tried a card I had from a previous version and it also would not sync. There was only a one line change so I copied and pasted it. worked OK. It appears LibreOffice has problems in the newest version with the sync. As soon as I have more time I'll look further and report a bug if I find anything. I'll also look at the Staples option, I know the store manager here. AFAIK, someone cleaned up the code around labels handling in LibreOffice-3.5. I have the feeling that it is shared with business cards code and could cause such a regression there. If you have a reproducible problem, please report the bug into bugzilla. It would be great if you could try the upstream version from http://www.libreoffice.org/download. If it happens there as well, please report it into the upstream bugzilla at https://bugs.freedesktop.org Best Regards, Petr -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Best Regards, Petr I'm going to go back to the upstream version hopefully today. I have run into numberous formatting problems in Writer-table-number format and calc format. If it is fixed in the upstream 3.5.1 version, it should work with the current LO-3.5.2 packages from LibreOffice:Unstable project as well. Best Regards, Petr -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Hmm, I wonder why it worked in the past and it does not work now. Could you please open a bug at https://bugs.freedesktop.org against the product libreoffice. Please attach there a test document that can be synchronized in older LO and can't be synchronized in LO-3.5.
If I call up a new business card in writer from File --> New --> Business Card . The select File Properities --> Options you can check synchronize contents. I have found no way under the above mentioned senerio in paragraph one.
Winfried looked at it and was not able to enable synchronizing later as well. IMHO, it is a bug and we should add this option somewhere. Could you please report this at https://bugs.freedesktop.org as well? Winfried did some searching in the code with respect to synchronising labels/business cards (business cards are merely labels with predefined fields, the basic behaviour is identical). It matters whether a label/b.c. document is created with or without synchronising. In case of synchronising, a master label is created and the other labels are 'slaves'. Else all labels are 'standard' labels. This means that it is not possible to synchronise label/b.c. documents that have been created without synchronising. It means that the "synchronization" can NOT be switched later easily and we could not add such an option. I forgot to write. It is still unclear why you are able to synchronize the older document in earlier LO version and it does not work in LO-3.5. Please, open a bug for this and attach a test documents there. Preferably, please attach both documents. The one that works in older LO but it does not work in LO-3.5. Also attach the new one created in LO-3.5 with synchronization. I'll do that today after I get home again. As for the one that worked in old version it was the same form. The form is an Avery 5371 downloaded from the Avery website. It may not have been created with sync in it. If I select File --> New --> business Card it starts up with 5371 Business Card I then select New Document it starts a form with 10 cards and sync is enabled. If I call up an ols card I created, many versions back, the sync does not come up, but when I created the card sync was there. I'd just use the new version except if I delete all the preconfigured parameters, it will not sysc. I need a different format for card. Is there a way to change the default one or create a new one with sync. enabled? Thanks for the response.

There are formatting issues between OpenOffice and LibreOffice. See: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=35803 I have also seen a number of label bugs in the past. You will need to search the freedesktop.org server. I don't have those links handy. -- David C.
