Hi, I'm looking to get an ide tape drive in the 10 to 20 gig range. I saw a Seagate STT 3200000A for less than $200. Would anyone care to recommend one that will work with the standard kernel drivers? Do all ide tapes work with the ide tape support in the kernel? The one you mention above (Seagate Hornet 10/20) should work just fine. I've got one in the file server at work, dirt standard SuSE 6.2 kernel, runs like a champ. - Chron and tar. I've also got an HP Colorado in our development server on 6.3, same deal, runs fine.

I'd be willing to bet that just about any Travan, atapi-IDE tape drive will come up as /dev/ht0 with minimal fuss. -- Fortune's graffito of the week (or maybe even month): Don't Write On Walls! My HP Colorado 20gig drive doesn't work in native IDE mode using kernel 2.2.14 or 2.2.16 - it does however work fine under SCSI emulation with the 2.2.16 kernel, SuSE 6.4. -- == jon bird - software engineer == <reply to address _may_ be invalid, real mail below> == <reduce rsi, stop using the shift key> == posted as: news@onastick.clara.co.uk == email: jon@onasticksoftware.co.uk == web: www.onasticksoftware.co.uk -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq
