as per http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-factory/2006-08/msg00118.html , /usr/X11R6 is moved into /usr, and similar things have been done or are in progress for /opt/{MozillaFirefox,kde3,gnome}. Question: Why? It could have just been the way it always was. (I appreciate links to existing explanations if that makes things easier)

FHS explicitly names /usr/X11R6, but is silent on X11R7. (I would have preferred a /usr/X11R7 and a /usr/bin/xorg-config script as well as a xorg.pc for pkgconfig).
