RE: [SLE] Yast control center "search" function almost never work s -- Am I the only
Just out of curiosity, open yast from a shell terminal (this is yast not the GUI version yast2) and see if you can enter in text for your search from there. ~James

As Mr. Spock would say, "Fascinating." If I enter <yast> from a shell I am able to search and add/delete packages from a non-gui setting. If I enter <yast2> from a shell I am able to search and add/delete packages from a gui! But if I go in via the yast control center from the bar at the bottom of my screen then I cannot search and add/delete. How strange! What would account for this? Gil

Hi Gil... James... This looks to me like a legitimate bug: If you right-click in the search field and scroll down to "Select Input Method" you get two choices: "XIM" and "Simple composing input method" Selecting either one of these changes nothing, the field does not accept keyboard input. *However* if you highlight some text somewhere... anywhere... and /paste/ it into the search field, suddenly it starts accepting keyboard input and you can conduct your search. Good catch, Gil. And, btw, I'm on 10.0 beta2 right this instant (with strategic links into my 9.3 home directory) so the bug has made it into this version, too. - Carl p.s. Skype is up here, Gil

Additional info... and a correction. If I click the SuSE menu icon button in the icon bar at the bottom of the screen and then select <yast> I can search. No problems. But if I click on the <KDE ontrol center> icon on the same bar and then select <yast2 modules/software/install and remove software> then I cannot type anything into the search box. In both cases, of course, I am entering the root password when prompted. Sorry if I misstated something previously. Gil

Ahh, so that puts it inside the fancy KDE control system toolbox thingy, right? Sounds like there's a bug with that.. I use Gnome myself, which doesn't have a wrapper for it. -Charles

Same here. Have you updated to KDE 3.5.2 as I have?

Make the 3.4.2 level a, to be correct and also more complete.
