Well, if it is truth, do not call it FUD.... if it is a lie.... present facts.......
It may be the truth but is far from the whole picture so I'd say it definitely qualifies as FUD. After all, the best FUD is usually based on some small amount of fact. 1) Open Source security holes get fixed much faster than MS security holes. 2) The amount of damage recently caused by insecure MS products seems to be far bigger than those caused by insecure Open Source products. I just sent the following email to ABCnews - They got the facts wrong so it is FUD.. The article of Fred Moody entitled "Much is being made these days of the gains Linux is making on Microsoft in the server marketplace" compares Linux and Microsoft NT on the number of vulnerabilities each has. Mr. Moody quotes securitifocus as his source but the numbers given are inaccurate. Mr Moody claims that Linux has had 47 vulnerabilities in 2000 whereas his source (www.securityfocus.com) has the number 30. As the number of vulnerabilities listed for Windows NT is 37 (both by Mr. Moody and www.securityfocus.com) the inaccuracy clearly offset the conclusions drawn in the article and it would be nice if ABCnews would admit this error and post a revised version stating the error as well as a revised conclusion based on the facts.
