OK, I've edited /etc/XFconfig file and at keyboard area I put 'us' where there was 'de' then saved it and rebooted and still garbage keyboard at login,

What does the KEYTABLE variable contain in /etc/rc.config (it should be the very first line)? I think for a US keyboard it should be set to something like us.map.gz.

boot with installation floppy, 'start installation' , (or other bootable floppy, like your rescue floppy), then alt-F2 to get a prompt, mount the hard disk, edit the config file in /etc, I forget the name, XF86.config or something, for the right keyboard. reboot. loosely.

or maybe you can boot single user and still use the keyboard, since X isn't loaded yet.
