Re: [S.u.S.E. Linux] Re: Package install requires re-boot
Tom Thanks but that isn't it. Ldconfig is used to set up the path to the system libraries. I didn't load a new library for mutt so no need for ldconfig. Just for kicks tey this: ldconfig -v > my.libs That will put a list of all your system libraries in my.libs. Also take a look at /etc/ld.so.conf. If you happen to add a lib and ldconfig doesn/t find it, add the path to that new lib to ld.so.conf and run ldconfig again. Now your cooking! Also do man ldconfig for all the REAL scoop. Thanks again Tom. Wayne Subject: Re: [S.u.S.E. WHY does loading of packages or files with or without YaST, REQUIRE that the system be RE-BOOTED???
Not a SuSE expert here, or even a LInux expert, but I have noticed that a few packages require a lib file update of some kind, using ldconfig - is that true? ldconfig is run automatically on boot up, and I noticed Slack and some of the others do this also. Perhaps all he needs to do is ldconfig to update the libs? Please educate/correct me if I'm wrong. :)
