I have been running a Suse 9.0 machine with the GNOME2 desktop for some time. I use yast on an almost daily basis to do an "online" update and keep the system updated. I was very surprised to learn that apparently SuSE does not make GNOME2 updates available via Yast, but you can get them from ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/supplementary/GNOME2/updates_for_9.0. There are three main directories underneath this path, base, applications, and devel. Here is my dilemma, how can I automatically download and install updated RPMs from these directories automatically, taking care of dependencies and such? I do not want to install _all_ the RPMS that are available at this site, since I do not need nor want all the applications and development tools on my machine (I understand and have no problem installing all the updated RPMS available in the base directory). You can add that as an installation source in YaST I believe, although I've never done that myself. Alternatively, it's available in APT as the 'gnome2' repository (info on APT can be found at http://linux01.gwdg.de/apt4rpm/). You might want to read this from the list archives first though: http://lists.suse.com/archive/suse-linux-e/2004-Jan/0355.html -- James Ogley, Webmaster, Rubber Turnip james@rubberturnip.org.uk http://www.rubberturnip.org.uk Jabber: riggwelter@myjabber.net Using Free Software since 1994, running GNU/Linux (SuSE 9.0) GNOME updates for SuSE: http://www.usr-local-bin.org
