Changing installation sources: rug sync fails
Hi, I hope someone stumbled across this as well in 10.1 final. I have created a DVD from the 5 iso images using makeSUSEdvd. After installation I have found out that quite a few packages are missing on the CDs ;-) Having discovered this I tried to change the installation source from DVD to HTTP as installation source. Deleting and adding of installation sources works, but saving the changes fails. rug failed to delete a ZYPP service: ERROR: Service 'dvd:///?alias=SUSE-Linux-10.1-CD-download-x86-10.1-0-20060516-211625' not found Any ideas what could be done here? Hi Andreas, Yes, this has been encountered by others... including myself. The trick is to make one change, close the 'Installation Source' module (be patient... this is a slow process) then reopen the module, make one change and close the module again. Repeat, as necessary, one source at a time until you are done. Also, it seemed to speed things up if I emptied the list of sources, first, before entering in my list of new, online sources. Mind your typing! ;-) You'll want to add sources for the following: Base: http://{mirror}/pub/opensuse/distribution/SL-10.1/inst-source Non-OSS 'Add-on' packages: http://{mirror}/pub/opensuse/distribution/SL-10.1/non-oss-inst-source Updates (bug fixes & security patches): ftp://{mirror}/pub/suse/i386/update/10.1 Suser-guru: http://linux01.gwdg.de/~pbleser/index.php Packman: http://packman.links2linux.com/ Optional 'supplementary' KDE upgrade (not "official" or "supported"): ftp://{mirror}/suse/i386/supplementary/KDE/update_for_10.1/yast-source The page to start looking for nearby mirrors is here: http://en.opensuse.org/Mirrors_Released_Version hth & regards, Carl

Of course, that was followed up by 'ldconfig' and 'SuSEconfig'. I changed the installation sources per my previous post. I updated and installed all the software I wanted, manually, using YaST's "Software Management" module. I then reinstalled the above list of packages and reenabled the automatic updating function. From your main KDE menu, highlight "System" then "Configuration" then "Update Software". The applet will load in your taskbar. Right-click on it and select 'configure'... let it refresh (takes a long time) then explore the updater configuration until you find the 'launch automatically' checkbox. That's it! Carl

Thanks for your help. Removing just the above listed packages did help. I still wonder why sound does not work and gnucash crashes when trying to configure HBCI for online banking. Seems like old bugs from 10.0 do still persist. Anyway, still giving SUSE a chance. Cheers, Andreas -- Seit 14502101 Sekunden. Since 14502101 seconds.

Hi Andreas, I'm glad you are persistent! Do me a favor and create a new thread on the suse-linux-e mailing list. Provide more background on your system and these problems... error messages, etc. Maybe we can help you iron the problems out. regards, Carl

Hi Janne, There's been a fair amount of SLE traffic on this topic. I think the answer to your question is 'yes' but you could search the database to confirm it. regards, Carl
