Parallel computing : beowulf : PVM ?
Hi all, I have a little bit of enthu here. And need feasibility analysis from those who have done it. I have access to three Linux machines which I have set up. These are part of our LAN also, as desktop machines to people that I know. One is a proper fileserver on a UPS. I also have HP-UX machines on the intranet. The IP addresses for Linux machines are in range of 10.3.1.* and the HP-UX machines are at 10.3.0.*. Subnet mask for all is 255.255.240.0 and they are very much part of a public LAN as other machines are. I am not looking for speed-gains here, but I definitely want to experience setting up my own cluster. I have the following questions. 1. Is it at all possible for me to setup a cluster where the nodes shall work really parallel [given applications] including both HP-UX as well as Linux machines? 2. Will it be possible for me to do so only for Linux machines? 3. Will it at all be possible for me to create a cluster, because the LAN is shared and the IP addresses are part of an existing scheme on the same LAN? 4. No machines on this network have TWO NICs and I do not have the power to change any of the IP addresses, although the machines have been assigned fixed IP addresses. Will it at all be possible for me to have a parallel cluster? 5. I am going through beowulf.org and other resources, but please send me if you have anything on your own.
