[opensuse] Thunderbird configure problem
A memory corruption and zapped my config, Putting dot files in $HOME back. With Thunderbird, I can click on a URL to get Firefox but it switches right away. I used to have it just open a new tab but not switch screens. My google-fu can't find the right wording. Yes, something is the about:config but what? -- /"\ \ / ASCII Ribbon Campaign X Against HTML Mail / \ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Thank you, Linda, but that was already "unset" at the Firefox end. I recall that years ago when I set this up it was done at the Thunderbird end, something to do with a third parameter yeammayammafundtion(url, "new-tab", third-parameter-that -determines-if-switch) OR something to do with not letting Thunderbird loose the focus if/when .... -- /"\ \ / ASCII Ribbon Campaign X Against HTML Mail / \ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Maybe this is more to the point? In order to force all links that open in a new window to load in a background tab, type about:config in the URL bar and change browser.tabs.loadDivertedInBackground to true. While you're at it, be sure to grab some other Firefox tweaks, too. The issue isn't foreground tab or background tab, its that Thunderbird gives up focus and the screen switches to Firefox. I have them each in a separate virtual screen and can click to switch between them, but when I click on a URL in a Thunderbird email message the "cube" rotates to the Firefox screen. Yes, the URL loads in a new tab rather than the 'current' tab, but that's not my problem. Is this 'focus stealing'? -- /"\ \ / ASCII Ribbon Campaign X Against HTML Mail / \ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Have you tried it? WFM! If it is true FF stays in background and doesn't pop to front, but if it is false FF popped to the top. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Yes I have. No it does not work.

Not so. Perhaps once but not here, now for me. Not in my context. Sorry. I don't know about you but I have to sweep the floor regularly to clear up all the punctured pretty balloons :-) I think this might have to do with when you are running FF in multi-window mode. In that case its about operating completely withing FF. I'm running it with all the tabs in one window. I'm also using TabMixPlus. I'm convinced this has to do with focus steal in KDE but my experiments there are failing, possibly though lack of knowledge, possibly because of the cache. If its not KDE then its to do with Thunderbird giving up the focus. -- /"\ \ / ASCII Ribbon Campaign X Against HTML Mail / \ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I've never actually used Thunderbird, and can't recall ever having such troubles with SeaMonkey. I did install TB once to see what the fuss was about and how it differed from SM. I just don't get why more FF & TB users aren't using SM instead, enjoying the same interop functionality it inherited from Netscape 4, along with SM's smaller footprint. Choosing and installing SM doens't prevent installing and using FF too for whatever little functionality FF has that SM doesn't. I use both, but SM always has by far more open tabs. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." Proverbs 16:21 (New Living Translation) Team OS/2 ** Reg. Firefox seems to be more up to date and do more things than SM. For example, the Firefox Hello WebRTC video chat is only available in Firefox. I also prefer Seamonkey for email. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Hence the word "little". I don't see myself ever installing a web cam aimed at myself, so neither expect to use any kind of video chat. Some things Firefox adds get added to SM on a delayed basis. That can be a good thing, allowing time for unforseen consequences to be found and worked out or backed out. SM has what the vast majority of people *need* in a web browser. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
