<snip> Hmmm. Odd, I've got the aforesaid application up in SuSE 7.0. I think, if I recall rightly, that all I did was start up a Konsole & then typed in install, after mounting the right cd..... Exactly, what do yall do Joe? *BFN* Greek Geek :-) Nothing lasts forever. Where do I find nothing?

I tried from the rxvt in icewm and after reading your message, using Konsole from kde, first logging on as root, then mounting the cdrom then going to the cdrom and running the ./install.wp script . The script asks about the kernel version I select yes for the install. The install script says it can't use the graphical program so uses the command line version but it never asks for any input for installation directories ect. and it runs through the script very rapidly ( few seconds) then ends, but nothing is installed. I also tried from the command line, using a similar process, logging on as root, accessing the cdrom and running the install script, same results, after asking about the kernel, the script runs without stopping, after a few seconds it says it is done. I changed hardware before upgrading to 7.0 so I thought I would try copying the Wordperfect 8.0 cdrom contents to the hard drive and ran the install from there, same results. It runs really fast, never stops and never actually installs anything. joe
Hi, Every hour my /var/log/mgetty.ttyS0 gets the following entries 01/30 13:39:49 yS0 checking if modem is still alive 01/30 13:39:49 yS0 makelock(ttyS0) called 01/30 13:39:49 yS0 do_makelock: lock='/var/lock/LCK..ttyS0' 01/30 13:39:49 yS0 lock made 01/30 13:39:49 yS0 mdm_send: 'AT' 01/30 13:39:49 yS0 mdm_command: string 'AT' 01/30 13:39:49 yS0 mdm_command: string 'OK' -> OK 01/30 13:39:49 yS0 waiting for line to clear (VTIME), read: 01/30 13:39:49 yS0 removing lock file 01/30 13:39:49 yS0 waiting... Should I be worried (apart from rapidly reducing disk space)?, and what can I do to stop it? Cheers Phil

Nah - as it says, it's just mgetty making sure the modem's still there and it's not listening to a port with nothing attached. Nothing to worry about, Chris -- __ _ -o)/ / (_)__ __ ____ __ Chris Reeves /\\ /__/ / _ \/ // /\ \/ / ICQ# 22219005 _\_v __/_/_//_/\_,_/ /_/\_\
