[opensuse] OpenOffice 2.2 for openSUSE
Hi all, How soon will there be an openSUSE 10.2 RPM for OOo 2.2? I would like to stick to the OOo that was "created by Novell, Inc. based on OpenOffice.org". The latest release I have is Build 2.0.4.7. :-) Al -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

You can get later openSUSE 10.2 editions of OpenOffice.org from here: http://software.opensuse.org/download/OpenOffice.org/openSUSE_10.2/ but it hasn't received the 2.2 RPMs yet. Is this the NOVELL-Fork of OOo or the release of the OOo project ? I read somewhere NOVELL forked sometime ago to put in features that won't get in the regular OOo build, like better file-filters for MS-Office. Therefore the NOVELL thingy was not based on the most modern release. Andreas -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Yea, I remember reading about it as well. I thought that would be a good reason to stick with the Novell 'thingy'. Or ... is/will it be such an improvement? How about installing both versions in parallel to test? Someone done that yet? :-) Al -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I've downloaded and installed from here on openSUSE 10.2 and it's listed as 2.1 built by Novell. As far as I'm aware the Novell additions to the 2.1 version, for SLED 10 SP1, were also in the RPMs on the site I listed for SUSE 10.1/openSUSE 10.2). Mainly this is VBA macro support and has passed back to openoffice.org for inclusion in the main releases. I'm not certain but I think these contributions were scheduled for the official openoffice.org 2.1 release. And if that's not confusing enough, you can also download the openoffice.org translators for MS Office OpenXML document types here: http://download.novell.com/index.jsp?product_id=&search=Search&build_type=SDBuildBean&families=3402&version=&date_range=&keywords=&x=22&y=8 Hope this helps, Jon -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I wouldn't call it a fork. The changes being done by Novell are being fed back into the main codeline... For example, http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/VBA which is info about the joint effort by Novell and Sun to get the Visual Basic macros working in OOo. That was just a bogus groklaw report. We simply patch OO like every other distro, we just happen to patch more (and with features) because we have a good sized team working on OO. We send it all upstream however and most of it eventually ends up in the base OO. -JP -- JP Rosevear <jpr@novell.com> Novell, Inc. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

A couple questions: 1)the additional features include VBA support and also I think fonts/font support of some kind --- is that correct? I've heard people say that things like screen fonts, icons, and just general fit and finish have been improved in the "novell OO" ... 2)does Novell (or OOo) maintain a windows release with the added VBA and fonts support? If so -- where is it? I would love to get a few smaller companies off of the MS Office bandwagon, as part of a stealth campaign to move them away from windows all-together. If there are real advantages to the "novell" version ... then I will seek it out. Not sure about this one - to be honest I haven't used a non-Novell built version of OO.o for ages... sorry.

Novell do have a Novell built version of OO.o available, however, it looks like the latest release was 2.0.4. I think this may be updated round about the SLE 10 SP1/OES 2 release though. I can't find a Novell built 2.1 for Windows I'm afraid. Jon -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

2.1 for windows will be out with SLED 10 SP1 in a few weeks. Its on download.novell.com. -JP -- JP Rosevear <jpr@novell.com> Novell, Inc. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

- maybe, VMware will be a comfortable path :) [ i do not know for sure, but vmware prolly have a ready built OO application which will run on VMplayer.] friendly greetings -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Why would Vmware need to do anything for OO? It works just fine in a virtual machine whether that VM is windows or Linux? -- _____________________________________ John Andersen

The VBA was a big thing, but even that is beginning to merge upstream, Noel Powers on our side has several related child work spaces going. -JP -- JP Rosevear <jpr@novell.com> Novell, Inc. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

have you checked http://repos.opensuse.org/OpenOffice.org/openSUSE_10.2/ ? add this repo to yast, and you will get newest version of OOo 2.2 as soon as it gets ready. -- einen schönen Tag noch, & bitte kein TOFU (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/TOFU) DI Rainer Klier Abteilung IT - Entwicklung ECOLOG Logistiksysteme GmbH Bauernstraße 11, A-4600 Wels Tel. ++43/7242/66200 Fax ++43/7242/66200-200 mailto:kra@ecolog.at http://www.ecolog.at -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I didn't see any listed enhancements for plot speed in the spreadsheet. Anyone else find it so very damned slow? We now use kst for plotting. Great program. Havent tried 2.2 yet, but yes, graph plotting in calc is unusably slow - they are in the process of rewriting the whole graph module - think its up for 2.4 release. This is one of the issues I have for not recommending OOo to my friends and family (the ones that I know will want to use spreadsheets) E-Mail disclaimer: http://www.sunspace.co.za/emaildisclaimer.htm -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
