[opensuse] leap 15, Nouveau and kernel 4.12
Finally changed the default kernel for leap 15. First 4.9.x and now 4.19.15. As expected, I got rid of tearing - mostly the bottom half of the screen - while using KDE zoom functionality. I guessed before that 4.12 had a problem with the Nouveau drivers so I changed to another kernel. Now finally I can use Leap 15 as my production environment. Strange, however, that nobody reported similar behavior before, at least not to my knowledge. Hi, because this seems to follow up to another mail, i am not sure if related to you, but some new graphic problems (on tumbleweed) are related to the installed xf86-video-intel driver. so maybe check if this is installed at your system. if yes only remove it has solved problems for some people including me at a notebook with noveau and installed xf86-video-intel. simoN Am 13.01.19 um 22:35 schrieb Frans de Boer:

Me, for instance, also xf86-video-intel. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.0 x86_64 at Telcontar)

1e - No top posting. 2e - The problem was with Leap 15, not with Tumbleweed. If x86-video-intel would have been involved, it must have happen after changing the kernel too? -- Frans -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

i do not know, because tumbleweed update a lot of stuff last time (most time), and it updated also the kernel, but kernel now is 4.19.12-1-default, i do not know what it was before..... but for sure a much higher number as in leap 15. but regardless of this, IF you have x86-video-intel installed, remove it, its in most cases useless. (as i read during last month in mailing lists and google) because of other (newer) intel drivers who are (normally) also installed at the system. but maybe its a real kernel problem, on the factory list i read today: ====================================================================== [opensuse-factory] New Leap 15.1 kernel submitted, DRM updated from petr tesarik ====================================================================== https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Direct_Rendering_Manager simoN -- www.becherer.de -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
