As policy we should not be promoting commercial products in our distro. Acroread etc are just about OK, because although they are closed source we don'''t have to pay for them.
If we get offered a DVD player that is free or OS, then we should have it in.
What about a links page for packages? So the core packages are on
I think this would be for SuSE 10.1, and SuSE team have to chose the product. Opensuse have to stay away from commercial. -----Original Message----- From: Magnus Boman [mailto:mboman@novell.com] Sent: mercoledì 21 settembre 2005 11.32 To: opensuse@opensuse.org Subject: Re: [opensuse] PowerDVD for Linux Obviously, I meant openSUSE.org :) the

I don't agree. This has nothing to do with "they" or "us". It's more about a WIKI page where anybody and everybody can enter their choice of preference in different categories. It's not about commercial or free either. Let the individual decide what he/she wants to go for.

I agree. Sometimes only one particular commercial product actually does the business. On the other hand an open source one that I haven't heard of may do it just as well or better. Can our wiki have star ratings? Can we have these external offerings on a YOU compatible server? Saves lots of fiddling about finding the right download etc, which is why we go for distros anyway. However what about things such as MP3 which may/maynot be legal to include in certain juresdictions? Otherwise effectivly we are only getting what is legal in Utah. To be truely open we need alternate sources. -- Simon Dales, Software Consultant "The impossible is easy"
